Catch up time for June

I have missed telling you about a few little trips we went on and here it is the week of closure for the temple when we go adventuring about the country. So a quick overview.
Beginning with our daily walks.  I came across this interesting bench idea.  I guess mom could trap the kids on the inside edge!
Bench we pass on our daily walks.
We all piled in Presidents car and he took us to Antigua for a guided tour of the city.  It was very interesting.

Cathedral that has been redone since the earthquake.  The hands of the statues fell off during the quake and were not replaced when they were put back in their cubicles.

Interior or the Cathedral

One of the few remaining domes.

They have made this cathedral into a hotel with several museums.  Weddings are often done here.
We found these flying ants one morning on our walk and the people were rushing about picking them up and putting them in plastic bags.  We discovered the large back end of them is fried and eaten with salt and lime juice.  A Mayan delicacy somewhat like caviar I am told as that part of the ant is full of eggs.  They are called Sompopo de Maya

Our next adventure was with the Mays.  They hired a taxi and he took us to Tecpan and the ruins there called Iximche. They were very interesting consisting of four large plazas where the ruling class lived.

Large Pyramid in the first plaza.  There were several in each plaza along with sacrificial alters.

One of the wealthier families had this area
Next post will begin our journey of last week.  Stay tuned!
